VinoMagazine, Radio Exterior de España and Telemadrid win the 6th 'El Cava' Journalism Prize

   VinoMagazine, Radio Exterior de España and Telemadrid are the winners of the 6th 'El Cava' Journalism Prize in the categories of printed media, radio and television, respectively. Writers Antonio Gala and Joaquín Leguina, actor Arturo Fernández and journalists Rosa María Calaf and Pilar Cernuda integrated the jury that selected the winners of the prize created by the Cava Regulatory Board in order to award the support given by the media to the cava industry.


   Within the printed media category, the jury decided to award the prize to the story titled 'Ici, aussi, il y a des bullles' writen by journalist Fréderic Galtier for the Belgian magazine VinoMagazine in december 2008. In the radio category, the prize was awarded to Carmen Carrido for her story 'El Cava' broadcasted by Radio Exterior de España on 25th December 2008. Finally, the program 'Buenos Días Madrid' of TV channel Telemadrid was awarded the prize within the TV category for a story broadcasted on 15th December 2009.

   Since its first edition 'El Cava' Journalism Prize has acknowledged the support of media to this sparkling wine with a cash prize of 12,000 euros in each category. The prize is open to works published or broadcasted in any media during the period between February 2008 and January 2010. Candidate works had to be submitted to the Cava Regulatory Board headquarters before 28th February 2010.

   The jury, an essential piece of the Prize

   Fernando Delgado, Ana María Matute, Lorenzo Milá, Jordi Vilajoana and José Luis de Vilallonga were the members of the first jury. In the second edition the jury was made up of Manuel Campo Vidal, Fabià Estapé, Rosa Regàs, Alfonso Ussía and Jordi Vilajoana. The members of the jury of the third edition were Rosa Mª Mateo, Antonio Mingote, Josep Puigbó, Mercedes Salisachs and Pilar Urbano were the members of the jury. At the fourth edition it was formed by Luis María Anson, Cristina Alberdi, Pedro Erquicia, Covadonga O'Shea and Olga Viza. In the last edition, Fernando Argenta, Antonio Fragua 'Forges', José Luís Olaizola, Victoria Prego and Cristina García Ramos were charged with selecting the winners.

   The awarded works

   In 2000, the prize was for 'The mistery of bubbles', by Sergi Pàmies and published by El País Semanal. At the second edition (2002), the prize was awarded to the special supplement 'Let the cava run' by Alberto Larriba, Rául Paniagua and Carlos Marqués, published by El Periódico de Catalunya. In the radio category the prize was awarded to Victoria Prego's 'La brújula', broadcasted by Onda Cero, while in the TV category the prize was for 'Land and sea', a program by Mabel Moya broadcasted by Canal Sur.

   In 2004 the prize in the printed media category was awarded to the story 'Drinking stars' by the journalist Gery Dawes and published in Cocina Futuro. The programs 'El Celler' by Oriol Puig (Ona Catalana) and  'The spirit of wine', by Ángel Casas (Televisió de Catalunya) received the awards in the radio and TV categories, respectively. At the fourth edition the prize were awarded to journalist Rosa María González for her story titled 'From Mediterranean to the Caribbean: a new route for cava' in the printed media cateory; the radio program 'No es un día cualquiera' by RNE, directed by Pepa Fernández; and the TV program 'Informe Semanal' by TVE, with its story titled 'Cava against boycott' produced by journalists Manuel Artero and Pedro Pablo Menéndez.

   In the last edition, held in 2008, the prizes were for the journalist Cristina Jolonch for her story 'The Wonder of cava', published in the supplement Magazine of La Vanguardia; Gonzalo Estefanía for 'The trip of senses: the cava', broadcasted by Punto Radio; and the program 'Cava', included in the series 'En clau de vi' anchored by Marcel Gorgori in Canal 33 TV.
