The tasting committee from the Cava Regulatory Board, after studying the 2009 wine vintage, has unanimously decided to suggest the Regulatory Board*s Plenum to qualify it as 'very good'. From a total of 168.7 million liters qualified, 151.8 have been white wine and 16.8 rosé wine. 2.7 million liters have not reached the qualification required levels. The whole process has last five months, from late October to April. The tasting committee has valued the analytic data of all type of wines that were presented for the qualification, their taste rating and also the evolution and behavior that they showed. The 'very good' recognition of the 2009 wine vintage preludes the quality of the cava that will be obtained once the production process has been finished. Analytic values of the season. Considering pluviometric and temperature levels, the 2009 vintage has been marked by September 2008/ August 2009 meteorological year. Important water reserves were accumulated throughout autumn and winter, whereas in the ripening stage - that takes place in July and August- temperatures were high. This circumstance has led to an irregular ripening process in the early grape harvest of the Macabeo category. The tasting committee from the Cava Regulator Board pointed out the special quality of the Parellada and Xarel.lo grape categories for white wine and the Trepat type for the rosé wine.
